Authors Collective: Rayna Vincent

Hello! I am Rayna Vincent! I have been writing for most of my life here and there but in the past year I took a writing class and published my first book. It took a lot of hard work and I am proud to say I am finished.

Amoeba

In a lonely hospital room, Nevaeh receive news that her life is ending. She is diagnosed with a deadly brain-eating amoeba. The news shocks both her and her mom. But Nevaeh isn’t complete convinced…Too many coincidences cause her to question everything. As she seeks answers, she bumps into a fellow patient, Isaac, and the two of them quickly form a friendship that neveah thought was impossible for her to find. Will Isaac and Nevaeh be able to learn about the past and unravel the corruption before it’s too late?

Why I Write

For me, writing is both a creative outlet and helps me process life. In my book Amoeba, I loved crafting the plot in my head, creating the characters, and planning the whole mystery. I love giving my characters problems and watching them solve the problems, and triumph in the end. Sometimes writing gives me a new perspective on my life, and I learn the lessons my characters learn. I one day want to be a detective, so Amoeba was extra fun to write because I got to work the spiderweb of mystery throughout the book.

I don’t know about you but I have read so many books that are good in theory (rounded characters, good plot, amazing worldbuilding, a strong antagonist, all the action you can dream of), but I’ve been left feeling uninterested, bored, and ambivalent towards the whole story. I'm always left asking: Why? Why did this happen? Why is it important? Why should I care? Odd isn’t it, you can have the most amazing storyline but if readers don’t care they aren’t going to be interested. Why? Well...

“NICKIE!” Megan roared before the door into Nicole’s office burst open, slamming into the wall and rattling. Nicole jolted, scrambling out of her sleeping bag, snapped wide awake now. She slapped a hand onto the top of her desk and pulled herself up enough to peer over it— “Nickie!” Megan snapped, hands gripping the same desk as she leaned on it and glared down at the other author. “AH!” Nicole yelped, flinching back and falling into the chair. The seat dropped her, unwilling to be involved,...

Authors brains are so helpfully… unhelpful sometimes. *huffs and proceeds to shove my article at you* Okay, so, let's start out with what started the decision which is what I'm gonna say in just a minute… well.. No, it’d be what I'm about to write in just a minute…— anyway, basically the thing that led to my consideration of the decision I mentioned above. Theme. Okay, theme is… theme is… alot. I’ve been struggling to wrap my brain around how it works and how to implement it ever since i...
