The Compass of the Shadow’s Bane

Pirates. They are not gone for good like the world believed. They lurk in dark waters, taking control of ships, stealing the cargo, and killing the crew. A pirate ship, called the Shadow’s Bane, is well known for sending a piece of their crime back to its home. Sometimes it was a cherished belonging, or the ship’s wrecked remains, even a tortured survivor.

Clever 14-year-old, Marrielle Eidan, has experienced this firsthand when the merchant ship her brother was stationed on returned completely abandoned. Only her brother's jacket and a small compass were found aboard. The most ruthless pirates across the seas are in search of this very compass. Marielle has a decision to make. Does she keep the compass or hand over the only thing she has left of her brother?

Hello! My name is Giana. I live in the scorching desert of Tucson Arizona, but I dream of traveling the world when I’m older. I want to be able to share the good news about our Savior, Jesus Christ, with the world. I’m known as an introverted bookworm who would much rather bury myself in the comforts of soft blankets and good stories then venture outside the cave known as my bedroom. I love writing, reading, drawing, gardening, role play, daydreaming about new adventures, and making people laugh.

Have I mentioned I love writing? Because I do love it. Creating entire worlds and being able to share them with others makes the process so much fun. Writing is a way I can express myself, which is why I enjoy it so much. I can actually share the characters and stories that have only been real to myself, in my own mind. The thought that other people might enjoy the story I created makes me jump up and down with joy.

As a proud bookworm, I watch authors expertly address problems in our society. They are able to use their worlds to draw attention to those things, and I want to do that as well. I want to show people they are never alone, no matter how lonely they feel. Someone is always with you, even if you can’t see them. I want others to be encouraged by my stories, to feel empowered. I want them to know that with God, all things are possible. That is why I write.

“Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” -Deuteronomy 31:6 (ESV)

Of course, I need to publish a few more books to get this message across, and that is the hard part… But I can’t wait to continue on my journey, and hopefully (if you want to) y'all can tag along with me. Wouldn’t that be fun?

I don’t know about you but I have read so many books that are good in theory (rounded characters, good plot, amazing worldbuilding, a strong antagonist, all the action you can dream of), but I’ve been left feeling uninterested, bored, and ambivalent towards the whole story. I'm always left asking: Why? Why did this happen? Why is it important? Why should I care? Odd isn’t it, you can have the most amazing storyline but if readers don’t care they aren’t going to be interested. Why? Well...

“NICKIE!” Megan roared before the door into Nicole’s office burst open, slamming into the wall and rattling. Nicole jolted, scrambling out of her sleeping bag, snapped wide awake now. She slapped a hand onto the top of her desk and pulled herself up enough to peer over it— “Nickie!” Megan snapped, hands gripping the same desk as she leaned on it and glared down at the other author. “AH!” Nicole yelped, flinching back and falling into the chair. The seat dropped her, unwilling to be involved,...

Authors brains are so helpfully… unhelpful sometimes. *huffs and proceeds to shove my article at you* Okay, so, let's start out with what started the decision which is what I'm gonna say in just a minute… well.. No, it’d be what I'm about to write in just a minute…— anyway, basically the thing that led to my consideration of the decision I mentioned above. Theme. Okay, theme is… theme is… alot. I’ve been struggling to wrap my brain around how it works and how to implement it ever since i...
