Authors Collective: Jonah Fowler

Hello Reader,I’m Jonah Fowler. I am a Christian, and I try to dedicate as much of my time as I can to studying and spreading God’s word. I was born in Tennessee but grew up in the Amazon Rainforest of Brazil, moving back here a few years ago. I love fiction! I’ve been reading books for as long as I can remember. Books like Narnia, The Hunger Games, and especially anything by the best author of all time, J. R. R. Tolkien. I started writing a few years ago on a fantasy series, and I recently published my first book, The Zone, which is Dystopian instead. I try to emphasize right and wrong in my works, with strong moral issues addressed. I am also trying to provide cleaner novels that are still realistic. I think fiction gives us a world to escape into. The struggles there reflect struggles in the real world. For example, I loosely based parts of the ATG in The Zone on the British. The British were one of the most tyrannical and oppressive nations on earth, doing unspeakable things to people. Simply look at Scotland or India, or the Beor wars. The British wanted control and power, and so they did so by taking from those they deemed less important. The stories of William Wallace tell of his valiant fight for freedom against the English tyrants. To do so he had to unite the clans so that they could work together against the real enemy. How our characters respond can often inspire our answers to problems in real life. with that in mind, I try to craft my characters in a way that would inspire readers to be like Aragorn and Samwise Gamgee from The Lord of the Rings. Noble, Courageous, Wise, Virtuous and always striving to do right. The Zone searches for the conflict of right and wrong, where the lines fade to gray. I dive more into the reasoning for writing the book in my book's back matter.

The Zone: Agape Chronicles

Death. So many of his friends dead. And the only way he would be able to stop more from dying would mean more killing. Either way, a lot of people would die. Trapped in the Zone with no memory, six clans of teens have been at war for years, trying to be the clan that survives and escapes. Virtue is in charge of training the new arrivals for war, but he questions the methods of his leaders and feels wrong about fighting the other clans. The monstrous Shifters get ever more aggressive. Virtue must figure out how to protect his friends and follow his morals. And he needs to decide soon because, as the other clans prepare to attack, the lives of everyone he cares about are on the line.

Jake Harrell was a huge part of this book. He added so much. So, a big thank you to him. The rest of my acknowledgements and dedications are in my book. But Jake is special, so I wanted to put him here.

Two more books will come out before the Agape Chronicles are complete, so stay tuned if you like the first book. I am working on them as fast as I can… I promise.

I don’t know about you but I have read so many books that are good in theory (rounded characters, good plot, amazing worldbuilding, a strong antagonist, all the action you can dream of), but I’ve been left feeling uninterested, bored, and ambivalent towards the whole story. I'm always left asking: Why? Why did this happen? Why is it important? Why should I care? Odd isn’t it, you can have the most amazing storyline but if readers don’t care they aren’t going to be interested. Why? Well...

“NICKIE!” Megan roared before the door into Nicole’s office burst open, slamming into the wall and rattling. Nicole jolted, scrambling out of her sleeping bag, snapped wide awake now. She slapped a hand onto the top of her desk and pulled herself up enough to peer over it— “Nickie!” Megan snapped, hands gripping the same desk as she leaned on it and glared down at the other author. “AH!” Nicole yelped, flinching back and falling into the chair. The seat dropped her, unwilling to be involved,...

Authors brains are so helpfully… unhelpful sometimes. *huffs and proceeds to shove my article at you* Okay, so, let's start out with what started the decision which is what I'm gonna say in just a minute… well.. No, it’d be what I'm about to write in just a minute…— anyway, basically the thing that led to my consideration of the decision I mentioned above. Theme. Okay, theme is… theme is… alot. I’ve been struggling to wrap my brain around how it works and how to implement it ever since i...
